No. 042: Styleblaster gives a creepy cross-section of Williamsburg
In many ways, walking Bedford Avenue (at least near the L station) is like going on a gentrified safari. People watching is sport, and side-glances are currency. Styleblaster brings it online. The site features a live photo stream fed by a motion-activated camera on the street. Visitors can then vote on the best looks. But unlike other street style blogs, the camera doesn’t try to curate or discriminate: everyone who passes is snapped. As creepy as this is, we think it offers a complete cross-section of the neighborhood—from 20-something transplants to the Hasidic Jews that made a home there before those transplants arrived.
